Since we didn’t get a full history for the resident chickens when we got the farm, we had a lot of figuring out to do. The first mystery was where were the eggs. That’s why you have chickens, right? We had two chicken coops, but since the chickens were VERY free range, I never saw them go in the coops. Needless to say, there weren’t any eggs in the nesting boxes. After several days (into weeks), I thought perhaps we had a post-menopausal hen, if there is such a thing. Several weeks later, the location for the eggs production was found behind a door (never closed) in the tool shed. There were 21 eggs in the pile. Not knowing how old they were, it seemed like a good time to get an incubator. To be continued…
